Autumn's Harvest Blog Hop

From November 9-12th, over 200 bloggers are participating in the Autumn's Harvest Blog Hop.  Not only are they having their own giveaway, the host, Carrie Anne is offering some amazing prizes.
Check it all out below. *smile*

Autumn time always reminds me, aside from the jumping into piles of leaves as a child, of the Peanuts.  Not the nut, peanut, but Charlie Brown and his gang, Linus, Snoopy, Lucy, and Woodstock.  They were our favorite Holiday cartoons.  Though I never did find out if he got the "little red-haired girl" he crushed on.
Love you gang!
But now, I love to crunch the brown and orange leaves beneath my feet as I walk with my someone special and then snuggle up with him next to a campfire.  Or cuddle up next to my fireplace with a good Romance.  (Though Charlie Brown will always hold a place in my heart. *wink*)

For the giveaway here on Charlene Blogs, I have a couple romances to offer so you can too.  One winner will get both PDF copies.

A Trace of Love
Ophelia Martinez has a chance encounter with internationally famous rock-star, Trace Curtis. To Ophelia, Trace will always be the charming boy she met in high school. They share one night together in which Trace falls in love with Ophelia. But Ophelia knows she can’t continue to live in the past, at least not with the secret that haunts her present.

So, allow me to introduce you to Kami...

On Highlighted Author ~ Tema Merback, In the Face of Evil

This week, over on my Highlighted Author blog, I'm pleased to present Tema Merback and her book, In the Face of Evil.  Click the Read More link below to enjoy the presentation. *smile*

~ * ~

Join me in welcoming Tema Merback to Highlighted Author.

Tema was born to a Holocaust survivor, Dina Frydman from Radom, Poland and Leo Balbien who was rescued by the Kindertransport from Vienna, Austria.  She was raised in a loving home by two people whose lives had been shattered by the Holocaust, though in entirely different ways.  She attended Granada Hills High School, worked countless jobs, and became a Kathryn McBride Scholar at Bryn Mawr College, following her passion for literature and art history.  As she married and had children, her desire to write was deferred by the demands of a family.

Through the years, several writers have approached her mother with hopes of telling her miraculous tale of survival.  Unbeknownst to Tema, her mother had long ago determined that only she could bring this book to fruition, that only she would write it with an intimacy and compassion that no one else could.  In the Face of Evil is the result of a collaboration of two forever bound souls, a mother and a daughter.

Until next time, may your dreams be magical.

Sweet Saturday ~ Pear Squash Bisque with Cinnamon Cream

Welcome to Sweet Saturday at Charlene Blogs.  We're going with a sweet creamy bisque this week that would be great for the Thanksgiving season.  I got this recipe from TasteOfHome.com.  Thank you Taste of Home for allowing us to share them. :)

Elaine Sweet, Dallas, Texas, says, "This lightly sweet and fruity squash soup makes a lovely first course for Thanksgiving.  The texture is creamy and smooth."

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 2 medium butternut squash (3 pounds each)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Caribbean jerk seasoning
  • 4-1/2 cups vegetable broth
  • 4 medium pears, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream

Directions
  • For cinnamon cream, in a small bowl, combine the sour cream, maple syrup and cinnamon. Cover and refrigerate until serving.

  • Meanwhile, cut squash into cubes. In a large saucepan, combine the squash, broth and pears; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until squash is tender. Cool slightly.
  • In a blender, process squash mixture in batches until smooth. Return all to the pan. Add brown sugar and seasonings. Gradually stir in whipping cream. Garnish soup with cinnamon cream and spiced seeds.
