April A-Z F is for Familial Witch Character Interview

F is for Familial Witch

I spoke with Author Bri Clark and she kindly agreed to let me interview the stars of her book, The Familial Witch.  Aisleen and Lucien should be here shortly, so relax while I straighten up a bit.

*glances over her shoulder to her blog readers*  While you're here, be sure to catch the links to the other A-Z blogs participating and contest that Charlene Blogs is running below.

Charlene fluffs the flowers on the coffee table and turns to answer the knock at the door.

Charlene:  Aisleen, Lucien, please come in.  *motions to the sofa*  Make yourselves comfortable.  What can I get you to drink?

Aisleen: Do you have any cider?

Lucien: I'd prefer ale if you have it.

Charlene:  Certainly.  *heads to the refreshments bar*  I’ve never had an Eternal in my home. *hands them their drinks* Um…I’m not entirely sure what all being an Eternal means.  Lol.  Fill me in?

Aisleen: Oh, I haven't been an E...

Lucien: Hush now Ais. *She glares at him and he smiles at her* Now this kind lady doesn't know what's happened. You wouldn't want to ruin it for her would you?

Aisleen: *arches a brow but drinks her drink*

Charlene:  *taking her seat, she ups her brows*  Well, I am the interviewer…

Lucien: Eternals are immortal, we regenerate, are strong, fast, have heightened senses. When we are injured, only silver, there is no scarring left. Unlike in a vamp. However, we are not without weaknesses. Such as witches with emerald eyes. *Looks at Aisleen.*

Charlene:  Okay, so…  *quickly sorts out his response*  only silver can injure you.  And you’re weakness happens to be emerald-eyed witches? Lol. *winks at Aisleen*  I understand you’re at the head of the Eternals.  What is the chain of command like?

Lucien: *visibly stiffens, sets his cup to the side, then heads to the window*

Aisleen: *looks worried*

Lucien: I'm responsible for all those that are in my clan solely. But I once had a second that I trusted implicitly. But based on his most recent actions I'm now responsible with protecting an immortal vulnerable to silver.

Charlene:  *tempers herself from asking who that vulnerable immortal is, sighting her guest is not comfortable with the topic.  She crosses her legs and goes for a lighter topic* Aisleen, I understand you helped Lucien recover from a very serious injury.  What was your first thought when you found him?

Lucien: *Turns from window and relaxes* Yes, my sweet, do share those first thoughts with our lovely hostess.

Aisleen: Actually I smelled him first. I knew I should have ran. He was injured and probably couldn't have found or catch me. However, I knew he was injured and honor bound me. Then I saw him.  *she blushes*

Charlene:  And then when you realized who he was?

Aisleen: I'm no warrior. It's only been in recent years I've began hunting and eating meat. But knowledge is a powerful tool and I am a witch. There were several things I could have done. They may not have killed him. But if I would have done that then everything I stood for would have been nothing.  I just couldn't do it.

Charlene:  How about you, Lucien?  When you woke up, what were your feelings about being saved by someone like Aisleen?

Lucien: Well when I first woke up my head hurt like hell and I wanted to shut up that blasted pounding. Then I saw her. Like a damn angel sent from the Mother Goddess herself. And she was chopping wood!

Charlene:   *smiles at the obvious attraction*  You are a special one, Aisleen.  Would you share with us what some of your talents are?

Aisleen:  Oh I'm nothing too special. Just a healer really.

Lucien: *looks annoyed* Actually she has a direct line to the Mother Goddess not to mention not only can she heal anyone but she will. Even those that don't deserve it.

Charlene:  *leans forward, feeling like she’s getting somewhere*  How do you become a Familial Witch?

Aisleen: I was groomed by my mentor. She received a vision. But the most telling feature is the eyes. We each have emerald eyes like no other.

Charlene:  *smiles and gazes at her stunning green eyes.  nods*  I do have to agree with you.  So, who is Mother Goddess to you?

Aisleen: She is my creator, my guide, my Mother.

Lucien: I revere the Mother. But I know that she doesn't control everything. She gave us a wondrous gift by allowing us choice.

Charlene:  *looks at them sideways, unable to hold back the question now that things are going well*  Is there a chance you two might, you know…ever fall in love?

They share a look.

Aisleen: Bri thought you would ask that. She said that your answer is in The Eternal Witch.

Charlene:  *Augh!*  Right.  Okay.  Well, do you think Bri would mind you sharing an excerpt with us?

Aisleen: Oh of course. This is where Lucien was talking about his headache and waking up.

Lucien groaned. His head seemed to pound in a rhythm. He opened his eyes to survey his surroundings on instinct he jumped up alert…in the process he knocked over a bowl of water. He cursed. He was still in the little cottage there was no sign of the woman. Bending over to clean up the mess he had made he caught the fragrance of dried herbs. Sniffing the cloth he found the source, then smelling his forearm he realized he was the additional source. A small mirror was positioned on a desk opposite the bed he inspected himself.  There was no trace of his shoulder wound. His skin had healed itself. Nevertheless, the silver arrowhead had been within his body for too long. His insides would take longer to heal. It’s like recovering from a poisoning for a mortal. How long had he been asleep? In answer, his stomach ached from the lack of substance. Eternals didn’t have to eat much but they still needed nourishment. The pounding rhythm started again and he cursed from the ache in his head.
That’s when he realized the rhythm was coming from outside the cottage. Lucien stood on stiff muscles. The smell of peony enticed him again and he followed as obedient as ever. Walking through the low doorway he knocked his head and swore again. Stumbling forward the sun shone in his eyes blinding him briefly as he went outside. When his vision cleared, he considered he might not be alive--for the sight before him was nothing short of angelic. A statuesque woman stretched her elegant body turning her face to the sun’s rays. The ivory of her complexion was soft as a cloud on the breeze. The beams colored her cheeks rose. Chestnut hair was pulled taught in a braid that ended at the small of her back. Her flowing white gown was almost see-through with the sunlight streaming behind it revealing shapely feminine curves. He smiled in admiration. Lucien was an immortal but at times, especially lately he was more of a man than he had ever been. He continued to admire the view that temporarily distracted him from his aching body.
The angel stretched farther with something in her hands, his smile stretched as well, then in one swift movement she brought down an axe. Two pieces of wood fell over adding to an already ample pile. The action was so unexpected, so unethereal, that Lucien cursed without thought. He stalked over to her and wrenched the axe from her hands.
“Are you daft, Madame?” he asked. She simply smiled, tipped her head, and raised her hand above her eyes. He could see blood from the broken blisters on her palms. It only added to his unexplained and sudden frustration.
“No.” She answered simply. “Are you?” Lucien was very aware of the high color of her cheeks and the deep crimson of her full lips.
“Why are you chopping wood? A lady should not be doing such laborsome work.” He growled. He was furious, but why? He didn’t understand his own feelings. She sighed, rubbed her hands on an apron around her waist, and then smiled again. Lucien didn’t need any more temptations to look at her hips.
“You must have forgotten sir; however I am not surprised you have been unconscious for days. So let me remind you. I am no lady. I am a witch. Remember?” He was aware of much more than her being merely a witch. He vowed he would find out what else she was. Hands still planted on her hips, teasing his attentions, she continued her banter. “Whatever title you feel like befitting me with now is of no consequence; because in a few hours we are going to be confined to that cabin by the storm that’s brewing in the West. It’s been building up for days and I’ve got to be prepared. If you want to chop be my guest. Nevertheless, I chopped all the wood in that shed and I’ll be chopping all the wood when you leave,” she stated matter of factly. Then began picking up the split pieces in her apron and stacking them under the crudely erected shelter near her door.
Lucien grit his teeth. Not if I don’t leave. That surprised him more than his anger. Why would he even entertain the idea? He had a dangerous situation he needed to take care of…a duty to his people. Yet all he seemed to want to do was to relieve Aisleen of the physical burdens that had obviously made her so strong and get to know her even better.

Charlene:  Speaking of Bri, she’s a real fireball!  How did you manage to get her to settle down and write your story?

Aisleen: I refuse to even speak.

Charlene:  *withholds a snicker*

Lucien: You have no idea what it's like. On the first draft I spoke like I was from Kentucky in one sentence then French in another.

Aisleen: *giggles* Bri has her own way of doing things. I can guarantee you this though, once she's got the story, come hell or high water the words get on paper.  One day she wrote 8,000 words in 10 hours. Unfortunately, now she aspires to do it again. The woman is crazy as hell. And see all this cursing? I didn't do it as much at first but now she can't stop me.

Charlene:  Will there be more to the story?  What’s coming next?

Aisleen: *shakes her head*

Charlene:  *nods her head and purses her lips*  Of course, wait and read the books.

Lucien: Aisleen isn't saying anything because she goes through a lot of physical pain in The Eternal Witch. And if there is one thing you'll learn about Bri is she is diabolical. Aisleen has a lot happen and revealed in this next novel. Last I heard there was at least two more books.

Charlene:  Oh, I see.  I’m sorry, Aisleen.  *uncrosses her legs and sets hands on her knees*  Well, I know you guys are very busy with getting the word out about The Familial Witch.  Where can readers find you?

Charlene:  *looks down at the link set on the coffee table*   Well, thank you so much for coming all this way to visit with me.  *stands*  Eternals, Mother Goddess, Familial Witches, liquid silver…  That sounds like amazing things waiting to be read about.

Charlene:  *waves bye as they walk out the door then calls after them*  Do tell me you’ll come back on your next tour!

Closing the door, Charlene looks around the empty living room.  She squinches her cheek and ups her brows.  I guess I don’t have what it takes to make Eternals feel comfortable enough to spill the beans.  She cocks her head.  Or maybe Bri swore them to secrecy.  “Hmm.”  I’ll have to have a talk with that sassy southern belle.

Familial Witch

Lucien Lemione the clan leader of the feared and revered Eternals is faced with the ultimate betrayal. His second in command for two centuries has not only created the most grievous of offenses but also commissioned the creation of liquid silver. When poisoned by this toxin, an immortal suffers a fate much worse than death, frozen in an internal prison. After being wounded when found spying, he hides deep within the eerie woods that encircle the Triad Mountains. Desperate and in pain, he prays to an offended mother goddess for help. Her answer: a woman, but not just any woman. A witch.

After losing her entire coven at the hands of the Eternals, Aisleen is the last of her kind. She retreats from the world to Trinity Forest where she is giving the opportunity of a lifetime, or perhaps a test of principles. It’s there she discovers the man she heals is the Eternal that wiped out her people. Although she is bound as a healer, she could be creative in her revenge. Aisleen knows who and what Lucien his…but does not speak of it. There can be no future with Lucien for she can only be with a mortal man. Even if she wanted to be with him, can she forgive the man that caused the genocide of her people?

Lucien must act quickly for the survival of his clan is at stake. However, Aisleen’s ethereal beauty and emerald eyes keep pushing those thoughts far from his mind. Determined to find out what secret she hides, he prolongs his time with her. When his people need him most what will he choose…duty, desire, or will he make his own fate?

You can choose love but you can’t choose destiny.

But when a vampire, Lucien’s sworn enemy, appears out of nowhere hinting of a prior relationship with Aisleen, will Lucien fall in with his more primal instincts? Or allow his potential rival to help the one woman who can fulfill the prophesy of his fate and heal his heart?

Thanks, Damyanti. Bri was a sweetie to let her characters answer my questions. I do it with my own too sometimes. We all have a party inside my head. Lol. (should I really admit that?)
